Spurred on by statistics that show only 13 percent of PRS for Music’s members are women, they have teamed up with Helen Meissner of Folkstock Arts Foundation to offer free song surgeries and advice clinics to women.
Their aim is to encourage other female songwriters to register their songs with PRS for Music and offer practical support and careers advice.
The masterclasses are free to attend and will be held on the afternoon of every date on the 12-date tour, dubbed Song Sisters.
Deliberately planned to coincide with the summer holidays, the sessions will run from 4pm to 6pm and incorporate a song surgery as well as tips, advice and a Q&A with Bevan and Lavelle.
Andy Ellis, PRS for Music education and outreach manager, said: ‘With so many emerging acts choosing a full or part DIY approach, its essential that music creators have an understanding of today’s music industry; how it works and how best to make it work for them.
‘PRS for Music is very much at the heart of that industry, paying royalties to songwriters and composers when their music is performed, played or copied. I’m very happy to be involved with the Song Sisters initiative; a rare opportunity for aspiring songwriters and composers to hear first hand how successful songwriters write successful songs and how those songs can go on to form the backbone of a successful career.’
