Addressing delegates at the Eurosonic Noorderslag expo this afternoon, she said that Creative Europe aims to help cultural and creative sectors seize the opportunities of the digital age and globalisation.
She added that the programme will draw on the European Union Cohesion Policy Fund, which is worth €1.8bn and may be used for strategic cultural investment as part of local and regional development strategies. The funding pot represents a 37 percent increase on previous spending.
If the programme is approved by the Council of EU Ministers and the European Parliament, it will run from 2014 to 2020. It is hoped the programme will enable the creative sectors to reach their potential so that they can contribute to the Europe 2020 goals for sustainable growth, jobs and social cohesion.
