The songwriters have been working with TV producer Chuck Lorre, the creator of US comedies Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, on a stage adaptation of their 1998 album Painted From Memory.
Costello told Music Week: ‘The first act has been written. We’re working with that and the second is in draft and Burt and I are working on I think he’s said about six songs.
‘It’s wonderful to hear his melodies. We’re once again contributing some music each to it but in the main I’ve been happy so far to be the lyricist.’
Bacharach and Costello's album earned the pair a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals in 1998 for the track I Still Have The Other Girl.
Last month, Bacharach headlined the Glasgow Jazz Festival, alongside Stan Tracey.
