On Saturday 29th May PRS for Music unveiled it’s fifth Heritage Plaque to Sir Elton John to commemorate Sir Elton John’s first ever performance at The Northwood Hills, now the Namaste Lounge.
It was here, back in 1962 that Reggie, as he was known then, was first employed to play pub piano at just 15. George Hill, former landlord of the Northwood Hills and the first to employ Sir Elton was there to witness the unveiling, as were members of Sir Elton’s management and the Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon.
Around a hundred invited guests braved the torrential rain to see PRS for Music board director & songwriter Simon Darlow unveil the Plaque, and then tuck into some excellent Indian cuisine courtesy of Yoga Mogantas, owner of the Namaste Lounge. Also there were fans of Sir Elton who had travelled from as far afield as the US and Germany. A highlight of the event was an auction of Elton John memorabilia - including two very bright shirts recently worn in concert - in aid of his AIDS foundation.
