The event, dubbed Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder, will celebrate the integral part music has played in the cult movie genre and will showcase some exclusive live performances throughout November and December.
First up will be the world premiere of DJ Yoda Goes to the Sci-Fi Movies on 15 November, in which the cut-and-paste wizard will take the audience on a scratch and mix odyssey into science fiction.
The BFI season also features songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Charlotte Hatherley, who will be performing her soundtrack to the 2014 short film The Last Man on 21 November.
Next, John Foxx and Steve D’Agostino will present Evidence of Time Travel, the premiere of the pair’s new audiovisual live show.
Also in November, DJ and label boss Jonny Trunk will host a sci-fi club night to celebrate the soundtracks that have defined the genre.
December sees the BFI welcoming legendary musical pioneer Afrika Bambaataa to discuss Afrofuturism, cinema and music with DJ, musician and filmmaker Don Letts.
Also in conversation will be the Academy Award-winning British film composer Steven Price, while key members of the Radiophonic Workshop will discuss how they created the sound for a number of BBC programmes, including the iconic film The Boy From Space.
