The English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a four-day festival.
The anniversary event, which takes place at Cecil Sharp House in Regent's Park Road, London from 1 November, will present a showcase of traditional song and dance.
Highlights include a talk about Bob Copper’s book Songs and Southern Breezes, the first performance by the Get Your Folk On! youth music project and a family barn dance.
Achievements from the last year include receiving a £585,400 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for The Full English project - the organisation is planning on using the money to set up an online resource of folk music, song and dance manuscripts.
Shirley Collins MBE, EFDSS President, said: ‘For the last 80 years EFDSS has been successfully working at conserving, supporting and promoting English traditional song and dance.
‘In recent years the society has come on in joyful leaps and bounds in presenting English traditional arts at the welcoming venue of Cecil Sharp House, as well as being highly successful in raising the necessary funds for the Society to thrive.’
A free exhibition celebrating 80 years of the organisation will run at the venue from October until January 2013.
