Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud has become the first song to reach 500m streams on Spotify.
According to the service's new Sheerio Index, one in four Spotify users has Ed Sheeran in at least one playlist with his songs featuring in an estimated 38m Spotify playlists.
Further findings show his music has been streamed an estimated 2.9bn times, meaning he is the second-most streamed artist on the service behind Eminem.
Some 19 million Spotify users listen to Ed Sheeran each month, giving him the third most worldwide listeners of any artist.
Ed told Spotify: ‘Chuffed to hear that Thinking Out Loud has had half a billion plays on Spotify.
‘Being the first artist to hit that milestone is amazing. Thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding song, soundtrack to a date, and as a way to woo someone into a netflix-and-chill situation.’
