Electronic artist Eats Everything (above), writer Irvine Welsh and members of the PRS for Music membership team are among those slated for this year’s Brighton Music Conference (BMC).
The Bristol beatmaker will join a discussion on social responsibility in dance music, while an ‘in conversation’ session with iconic author Welsh will explore his links with the genre.
PRS for Music will host two sessions; Getting Paid For Your Creativity, and Diversity is a Reality: Inclusivity is the Goal.
The organisation’s dance account manager Ashley Howard will host the first panel, which explores how creators can earn a living from their work and build a sustainable career. He will be joined by Defected Records’ Adrienne Bookbinder, Soraya Sobh from The Bakery and Critical Recordings’ Adam Woolf.
The second PRS for Music-supported panel will feature the society’s West England education and outreach manager Claire Rose, alongside moderator Fiona McGugan (Music Managers Forum), Steven Braines (The Weird & the Wonderful), Amanda Maxwell (Boiler Room) and Natalie Wade (Small Green Shoots).
They will discuss what it means to be a diverse business in 2018 and the practical inclusion strategies that can instigate lasting change across the industry.
Elsewhere, BMC’s professional programme strand includes discussions on mental health in electronic music, the possible impacts of Brexit and drug testing in clubs.
It will also address questions such as, is the underground underground anymore?
Total speakers number more than 160 across the two-day schedule, with organisations including Virgin/EMI, the Association for Electronic Music, Help Musicians UK, Fabric, BPI, AIM, Tru Thoughts, GRM Daily and Ableton all involved.
The event takes place from 25 to 28 April at various venues across Brighton.
