The number of deaf and disabled fans attending live music events in the UK increased by 70 percent to 114,000 in 2014, a new study has revealed.
Charity Attitude is Everything’s new survey revealed that the figure increased from the 67,000 tickets sold during 2013 t deaf and disabled music fans. This had ‘a direct economic impact’ of an estimated £5.4m.
More than 100 festivals and venues have now signed the organisation’s Charter of Best Practice, from large-scale events and arenas, including Glastonbury, Latitude, Download, Reading/Leeds and The O2.
Suzanne Bull MBE, founder of the charity, said: ‘It is heartening to see such a strong correlation between the venues and festivals who embrace our Charter of Best Practice and the numbers of disabled customers coming through their doors.
‘It also sends out a strong message to the wider music and entertainment industry: there are potentially millions of disabled customers wanting to attend your events and, if you improve access, then they will come.’
The charity's future plans include doubling the number of sign-ups and to further increase the numbers of disabled fans at live music events.
Attitude is Everything supporters include the likes of alt-J, Belle and Sebastian, Anna Calvi and Enter Shikari.
