Digby Pearson, founder and managing director of iconic heavy metal label Earache Records, is to receive the Pioneer Award at the AIM Awards.
The prize, which has previously been given to Martin Mills (Beggars Group) and Geoff Travis (Rough Trade), will be presented to Digby at an event on 8 September in London.
He founded Earache Records in Nottingham in 1986 with a sound focussed on extreme metal - the pioneering imprint helped kick start the careers of Napalm Death, Morbid Angel and Godflesh.
Commenting, Digby said: ‘It's an honour to be awarded AIM's Pioneer award, cheers to all the voting panel. Great news for all up-and-coming independent rock and metal labels out there - if you're dedicated and tenacious enough, it's pleasing to know that hard work can pay off in terms of respect from industry peers.
‘Lastly big up to the long suffering Earache staffers, especially Dan Tobin and Al Dawson, without whom nothing much would have been achieved.’
Earache’s successes include two Guinness World Records, mu ltiple sync deals with Hollywood blockbusters and chart-busting video games.
