Delia Derbyshire Day will be held in Manchester to honour what would have been the 80th birthday of the electronic music pioneer.
Taking place on 10 June at Band in the Wall in Manchester, the event will honour and celebrate the anniversary via series of performances and discussions using the Delia Derbyshire archive held in Manchester’s John Rylands Library.
Delia (1937-2001) is most famous for her iconic realisation of the original Dr. Who theme in 1963, and her archive reveals much more of her work and creative techniques.
According to promoters, the event will 'delve into her archive to explore and honour her technical skills, creative spirit and the working methods of her time.
‘We will also present a new audio collage of archive material that is not in the public domain and present performances by commissioned artists who have produced a creative response to Delia’s inspiring archive.’
The event will feature How we made the Dr Who theme, an entertaining talk by Delia’s colleague & friend Dick Mills and an archive sharing discussion with members of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
There will also be a new audio collage of archive material compiled by David Butler as well as new artist commissions created in response to the archive.
