Debbie Googe of My Bloody Valentineand Primal Scream is helping launch the second LGBTQ The Music event in Leeds alongside Zena ‘Zee’ Davine of queercore band Queen Zee.

Presented by Come Play With Me and PRS for Music, LGBTQ The Music 2 is a series of performances and discussions that intend to broaden participation in Leeds’ music scenes from LGBTQ individuals and provide a safe space for members of these communities to enjoy live music.

The event will see an interview with renowned shoegaze bassist Debbie Googe alongside Zena Davine as they discuss their journeys and experiences through the music industry.

LGBTQ The Music 2 will also feature live performances from local LGBTQ musicians including prominent Leeds DJ NikNak and an acoustic set from Maya Kally.

Two separate panel discussions will be held to explore general LGBTQ issues in music and issues faced specifically by LGBTQ people of colour in music.

Panellists for these discussions include Tony Ereire, founder and director of Come Play With Me, Andrew Edwards, bass-player for The Golden Age of TV and Maxie Gedge from PRS Foundation, alongside many others.

Dan Jones, PRS for Music education and outreach manager for the North of England, said: ‘We are excited to be teaming up with Come Play with Me for this inspiring and empowering event, which will give LGBTQ music creators a safe space to learn more about the music industry, share their experiences, and widen their network.

‘As a membership organisation, PRS for Music doesn’t just collect royalties. We’re also here for creators to turn to for advice and education on the music business.’

The event will be held at Hyde Park Book Club in Leeds on September 26th. Entry will be free.
