David Bowie’s handwritten lyrics for his hit song Jean Genie are among items being auctioned in London in July.

Bonhams, which is organising the sale of Bowie memorabilia on 3 July, is expecting to raise up to £15,000 when the lyric sheet goes under the hammer.

In the listing, the auction house said: ‘David Bowie gave these lyrics to Neal Peters, the then President of the Original David Bowie Fan Club in the USA. The authorised fan club was established in 1973 and Peters was appointed by Bowie himself.’

A letter from the Neal Peters Collection, on headed paper, confirming the lyrics were a gift from David Bowie are included alongside the sale of the lot.

A number of other pieces of Bowie memorabilia are to be auctioned including a Vox Mk.XII twelve-string electric guitar used during tours surrounding The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars.

A £12 contract signed by Bowie and his former guitarist John 'Hutch' Hutchinson to perform at London's Ealing College of Communication in 1969 is also going under the hammer.

Elsewhere, a lock of Mick Jagger’s hair is up for grabs and expected to raise as much as £2,000.

The item was donated by Chrissie Shrimpton, sister of Mick Jagger’s ex-girlfriend Jean, after the then couple stayed at the former's grandmother’s farmhouse. All proceeds from the item’s sale will go to charity.
