London’s V&A museum has announced details of a nationwide cinema screening of a special feature documenting the David Bowie Is exhibition.

David Bowie is happening now, which takes place on 13 August 2013, will give music fans the chance to watch curators Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh plus special guests discuss the stories behind the 300 exhibits on display.

Hamish Hamilton, the BAFTA winning director behind the televised coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Game, will direct the film which will be screened across 200 cinemas nationwide.

The event is being billed as a finale to the exhibition which has been one of the most popular in the V&A’s history.

Martin Roth, V&A director, said: ‘Visitors have gone to great lengths for a chance to see our exhibition so we wanted to give everyone across the country one last opportunity to experience it for themselves.

‘This is the first time the V&A has taken part in a live broadcast event of this magnitude and we are extremely excited to be working with such a talented production team to present the phenomenon that is David Bowie to the widest possible audience.’

The V&A exhibition is due to close on 11 August.
