In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he described the record as ‘folk soul’ and revealed plans to tour the new material later this year.

Albarn worked with Russell on Bobby Womack’s latest album The Bravest Man in the Universe. This time round the former Blur frontman and Gorillaz mastermind looked after songwriting duties while Russell took care of ‘the rhythmic side’.

‘We worked together on the Bobby Womack record, and really enjoy working together. He's done spectacularly well as a music mogul, but I think he wants to focus his energy on producing records,’ Albarn told the magazine.

‘Making a solo record is can be such a disaster, so I thought if we're going to make a record with my name on it, I should get someone to really produce it – take that responsibility away from myself.’

Later in the interview, Albarn admitted that Blur had been toying with the idea of recording a new album. The band are partway through a worldwide tour which lands at Primavera Sound in Portugal on 31 May and the Irish Museum of Modern Art on 1 August.
