The set, which features collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Julian Casablancas and Panda Bear, has become the fastest selling album of 2013 so far, shifting 165,000 copies in its first week of release.

Album sales were largely supported by the the smash hit Get Lucky, which has sold 711,000 copies since its release six weeks ago.

Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company's managing director, said: 'After the massive success of their first official UK number one single Get Lucky, it is little surprise that Daft Punk have also secured their first official number one album in the UK, too – but they have done so with some style.

'Having now claimed the fastest selling album and the biggest selling single of the year, Daft Punk truly are the musical phenomenon of 2013 so far. Viva les robots!'

Meanwhile, the Parisian androids have broken their second Spotify record. Just weeks after Get Lucky became the most streamed track on the platform ever, their album Random Access Memories has achieved the most first-week streams on record.

Over in the singles chart, Naughty Boy has made his mark this week with La La La - now the fastest selling single of 2013. The song features vocals from the already immensely popular singer Sam Smith, who previously worked with Disclosure on their single Latch.
