Robert Smith has been announced as the curator of Meltdown Festival 2018, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
The Cure singer-songwriter and lead guitarist will follow in the footsteps of David Bowie, Ray Davies, Yoko Ono and M.I.A. to pick the acts performing at the event, which holds the title as the UK’s longest running artist-curated music festival.
In a statement, Smith promised a jam-packed lineup, saying: 'I am honoured and excited to be curating the 25th Meltdown Festival.
'More than 30 of my all-time favourite artists – some of the most exciting, inspirational, intense and influential performers of the last 40 years – will make sure this 10-night extravaganza at London’s Southbank Centre is the must-see event of the summer!'
Bengi Unsal, Southbank Centre Senior Contemporary Music Programmer said: 'Robert Smith is the perfect artist to help us celebrate our silver jubilee Meltdown.
'Over a career spanning four decades, he has achieved globally-recognised excellence, paving the way for the alternative and the uncategorisable.'
The event will be held at London’s Southbank Centre from 15 to 24 June.
The first artists will be announced in early March, with tickets going on sale to Southbank Centre members on 13 March, and to the general public on 15 March.
