Independent record company and publisher Concord Music has bought UK label Independiente Records, home to Paul Weller (pictured), Travis and Martina Topley-Bird.

The label was established in 1997 by former Go! Discs founder Andy Macdonald, and has enjoyed a string of number one singles and albums since then, from the likes of So Solid Crew, Embrace and more.

Macdonald said in a statement: ‘It was very important to me to hand over this collected body of work to a label who both understands and respects the work that has been put in from the artists and label staff and it was immediately apparent from our meetings [with Concord] that they tick both of those boxes and more.

‘Concord Music has assembled a fantastic universe of brilliant music over the years and I am proud to see Independiente become an important part of that picture,’ he added.

Earlier this year, Concord Music entered into an agreement with PRS for Music, STIM and GEMA joint venture ICE to oversee its online licensing and administration needs.

In 2017, Concord Music acquired Imagem Music Group and integrated it with its existing publishing operation, The Bicycle Music Company.

Since then, Concord has acquired Fania Records and Publishing, Varèse Sarabande, Razor and Tie and Savoy Label Group.

Sig Sigworth, president of Concord Music’s catalogue division, Craft Recordings, said of the Independiente buy-out: ‘We are very excited to dig into this catalogue to identify new and unique ways to continue the artists’ legacies and support their fans.’
