Classical luminaries mark Battle of the Somme centenary

BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales are holding a commemorative concert marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales are holding a commemorative concert marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The concert, Somme, will be conducted by Adrian Partington and feature music by George Butterworth, Francis Purcell Warren, Gordon Jacob and Albert Roussel, all of whom served or died in the World War One battle.

The programme also contains music written by Herbert Howells and Delius in memory of the fallen.

BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales perform Somme on 1 July at 7:30pm in BBC Hoddinott Hall, Cardiff.
