Pretenders co-founder and main songwriter Chrissie Hynde has extended her global publishing deal with Sony/ATV.
The deal covers the artist’s entire songwriting catalogue, starting from the Pretenders' self-titled first album. The record was largely written by her and reached number one in the UK in January 1980 in the same week her co-composition Brass In Pocket topped the singles chart.
The extended deal also includes Chrissie's debut solo album, Stockholm, produced by Bjorn Yttling from Swedish indie pop band Peter, Bjorn and John. Sony/ATV UK president Guy Moot is believed to have introduced the pair.
Chrissie said: ‘I’ve been with these guys for a while now. Guy Moot introduced me to Bjorn Yttling so he’s partly to blame for my new project.’
Fran Malyan, Sony/ATV Senior VP A&R/Catalogue, added: ‘Chrissie Hynde is one of the most iconic songwriters and musicians of the last 40 years and we are thrilled to extend a relationship with her that goes from the early days of the Pretenders right up to her fantastic new album.
‘Her catalogue is a joy to work with because it contains so many synchable songs and remains in high demand globally.’
Sony/ATV represents the copyrights for a whole range of artists including the Beatles, Stevie Wonder and Leonard Cohen.
