The Chemical Brothers have scored the record for the most number one studio albums for a dance act in the history of the charts.

According to the Official Charts Company, the electronic duo have taken the record with their latest LP Born In The Echoes topping the charts and giving them their sixth number one.

Their previous number one albums are Dig Your Own Hole (1997), Surrender (1999), Come With Us (2002), Push The Button (2005) and We Are The Night (2007).

The Prodigy are the closest dance music success story to the Manchester pair with five number one studio albums and a chart-topping singles compilation record.

Elsewhere, a two-week reign at the top, Years and Years’ slip to number two with Communion after two weeks at number one. Ed Sheeran’s X spends its 58th week in the charts at number three.

Nottingham duo Sleaford Mods finished at number 11 with their eighth album Key Markets.
