Twenty-one-year-old Charlie Stewart has become BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the year.
Stewart, who first picked up the fiddle aged nine, is at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, studying jazz bass with Mario Caribe and fiddle with Marie Feilding.
In 2016 he reached the semi-finals of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, playing with harpist Becky Hill.
He was selected for the BBC Radio Scotland award from a shortlist of six, which also included Ella Munroe, Grant McFarlane, Iona Fyfe, Kim Carnie and Dougie McCance.
Stuart Fleming, PRS for Music’s senior membership manager, was among the judges at last night’s awards ceremony, which saw all six young musicians compete in the grand final.
The show was broadcast live on BBC Radio Scotland and is part of Celtic Connections 2017.
