Cerys Matthews, singer songwriter turned BBC 6 Radio broadcaster, was awarded a Sony Gold award for her Cerys on 6 show.

She won the music broadcaster of the year at the Sony Radio Academy Awards with the judges describing her show as: ‘A totally unique listen. A collection of music from a wide range of genres pulled together skilfully and with genuine love into a coherent, wonderful whole.’

Elsewhere Radio 2’s Demot O’Leary received the prize for best music programme, beating competition from BBC 6’s Lauren Laverne and Jarvis Cocker.

Absolute Radio’s Christian O’Connell took top honours for music radio personality of the year and best use of branded content. His latest accolades make him the first radio presenter to win ten Sony Awards.

The awards ceremony took place last night (13 May) at the Grosvenor House hotel in London and saw live performances from the likes of Robbie Williams and Jamie Cullum.
