A new one day festival will be held in Carnaby to celebrate ten decades of music in London’s West End.

Taking place on 6 July, the event, which is being billed as the largest free music festival in this part of London, will see performances from 15 live bands and 20 DJs covering music such as jazz, blues and rock.

Organisers said that music and fashion have been united in the area since John Stephen, the so-called King Of Carnaby Street, opened his first boutique in the area back in 1958.

The following decade, the youthful John Lennon, Brian Jones and Mick Jagger were all known for purchasing their clothes from Carnaby boutiques.

More recently the West End was the location for Liam Gallagher to launch his new clothing company Pretty Green while independent firm The Great Frog continues the tradition by making jewellery for the likes of Iron Maiden and the Arctic Monkeys.

Gourmet street food and real ale and cider will also be available alongside the live music and DJs at the festival on 6 July.
