On 1 May the London Eye will be set to a slow rotation speed and each of its 32 capsules will be given over to a talk by a well known authority on a famous Londoner.
Geoffrey Marsh, who curated the blockbuster Bowie exhibition last year, will discuss the iconic songwriter. Film director Julien Temple will host the talk on Davies and DJ Nihal will cover Jazzie B.
Actor and author Charles Elford will discuss the life and work of Coleridge-Taylor, while broadcaster and writer David Stafford will cover Lionel Bart’s songwriting career.
Overall, there will be 32 talks and subjects will range from Thomas Becket to Zadie Smith. They will offer insight into the influential figures that have shaped the heritage, culture and image of London over its history.
The lecturers themselves will be a roll call of those who have contributed to the capital’s cultural legacy, from former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, to ex-Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, broadcaster Robert Elms and biographers Claire Tomalin and Kate Williams.
