According to trade weekly Music Week, there was a ‘sizeable gap’ between Harris and runner-up Sia Furler, who co-wrote David Guetta's Titanium and Flo Rida's Wild Ones.

The Scottish songwriter, performer and producer reached the top of the songwriters’ league for a second year through collaborations with the likes of Rihanna, Florence Welch and Cheryl Cole.

His name was ubiquitous in 2012; on Cole's Call My Name, Rihanna's We Found Love and his own songs Let's Go featuring Ne-Yo, We'll Be Coming Back with Example and Sweet Nothing featuring Florence Welch.

The year’s top 20 songwriters also included PRS for Music members Coldplay, Emelie Sande, Ina Wroldsen and Paul Epworth.
