Hull punk-rock quartet LIFE have inked a worldwide publishing deal with Bucks Music Group.

LIFE’s debut album, Popular Music, was produced and mixed by Grammy Qward winner Ian Dowling at The Fish Factory in London, and self-released in 2017.

It was included in BBC Radio 1’s Album of The Year 2017 list alongside releases from Stormzy, The xx and Jay Z.

The band, who performed at PRS Presents last week, are working on their second album with Luke Smith (Foals, Clor, Palace), which is set for release in the first half of 2019.

In the last 12 months, LIFE have headlined for the BBC at SXSW, toured with Slaves, Idles and Nadine Shah, and returned from a trip to Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, where they signed with Bucks.

Liquid Management’s David Manders said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Bucks Music into the LIFE team. From the word go, Sarah and her team have been extremely enthusiastic, and it was great to seal the deal on the Reeperbahn around some great punk-rock shows in Hamburg. The Bucks ethos is extremely independent and matches LIFE’s outlook. We’re looking forward to the journey ahead together.’

Sarah Liversedge Platz, Bucks’ director of creative A&R, said: ‘We felt an immediate connection with both LIFE and Liquid Management. Their team spirit is inspiring and the band’s social and political viewpoint is much needed in music at the moment in the face of rising fascism and further social and financial division within our wider communities.

‘LIFE’s songs are truly powerful and the band perform with such gusto and determination. They are stars in the making and we will back them all the way!’

Bucks’ catalogue includes works written by David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Run The Jewels, Brian Eno, James Blunt, Rudimental, Beyonce, Joe Strummer, CAN, Pete Doherty, Andreya Triana, David Arnold, Honeyblood and One Bit.

Its label publishing partners include Floor Sixx, Heavenly, Nude, Fulltime Hobby, Brownswood, Rekids, Arts & Crafts, VIVa and No Hats No Hoods.
