BASCA (British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors) has opened the nominations for this year’s British Composer Awards (BCA).
Composers will have the chance to be nominated across thirteen categories for works of classical and jazz music.
The works need to be written either by composers living and working in the UK or by composers from outside the UK debuting a work in the UK. The work needs to have been debuted between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2014.
Nominations close on Friday 18 July and full rules and guidelines, including the nomination form can be downloaded via www.britishcomposerawards.com.
BASCA has also simultaneously announced the appointment of Julia Haferkornand Ed McKeon of Third Ear as artistic directors of the 2014 BCA.
Simon Darlow, BASCA chairman, said: ‘As chairman of BASCA I am delighted to welcome Julia Haferkorn and Ed McKeon on board for this year’s BCA. They will bring fresh eyes and reassuring expertise to what is now a highlight in the contemporary classical calendar.
‘We are looking forward to receiving the same high level quality entries across all of our categories and encourage anyone who feels they have been involved with a prospective winning piece to nominate.’
The 12th annual BCA will take place at Goldsmiths’ Hall, London on Tuesday 2 December 2014.
The awards are presented by BASCA and sponsored by PRS for Music.
