The BPI has published its Yearbook 2014, the organisation’s annual collection of music industry statistics.

The 35th edition of the book examines current music industry trends including the continued rise of digital, data surrounding consumer behaviour and sales information.

Other chapters focus on the continued success of British music overseas as well as classical music and retail.

In the book’s introduction, Geoff Taylor, BPI chief executive, said that one of the important trends surrounding digital is the way young people are more knowledgeable than ever before about music due to social media.

He continued: ‘A major factor behind this must be the capability that now exists to listen, at the touch of a button, to virtually the entire history of recorded music - combined with the means to easily share these classic songs with friends and other fans.

‘The discovery and appreciation of music has been enhanced by the licensing of on-demand streaming services and their integration with social networking platforms.’

The publication includes data from the likes of the Official Charts Company, IFPI, Kantar, Nielsen and Futuresource is also included alongside BPI’s own statistics.

The yearbook is currently available for the price of £60, £25 less than its normal selling price.
