John Whittingdale, secretary of state for culture, media and sport has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the BPI’s AGM.
Taking place on 9 September in the Riverside Rooms of the organisation’s County Hall London base, the politician will give a speech alongside BPI chief executive Geoff Taylor and Ged Doherty, BPI and BRIT Awards chairman.
This will be the latter’s first such event since joining the BPI at the beginning of the year.
The BPI AGM 2015 will also include the election of candidates to the BPI Council.
Ged Doherty, BPI and BRIT Awards chairman, said: ‘I’m really looking forward to welcoming our members and, of course, the secretary of state to this year’s AGM and reception, not least as this will be my first as chairman. The overriding theme to this year’s event will be the vital importance of the UK’s music ecosystem, which all of us in this industry must work together to protect and promote if artists and labels are to carry on thriving both here at home and around the world.
‘I am delighted too that we have one of the largest ever and most diverse fields of candidates standing to represent our label members on the BPI Council. It’s always good to have new faces and fresh ideas and it says a great deal about the robust health and vibrancy of the community of labels that we are here to support.’
The event will be followed by the BPI’s Annual Reception, which will feature a number of live performances, including from Parliamentary Rock group MP4. The full line up of confirmed guest artists will be announced shortly.
