The European independent will provide key sales, marketing, fulfilment and distribution for BMG’s recently acquired catalogues.

This deal is thought to exclude North America as well as the music of Depeche Mode and Black Sabbath.

BMG purchased the catalogues of Sanctuary and Mute earlier in the year from Universal Music.

The latter was forced to divest itself of the repertoire in order to comply with European Commission competition laws following its acquisition of EMI.

Adrian Pope, Managing Director of [PIAS] Artist and Label Services, said: ‘[PIAS] has a potent combination of experience, great systems, specialist expertise and an established international network of offices and partners.

‘BMG has clearly established a reputation as a company which genuinely cares about the rights and repertoire that they hold. Together we share a common goal in working collaboratively to really bring to the surface a raft of repertoire that has huge potential, not least in the continually evolving and globalized digital markets.’

The Mute catalogue includes master recordings from artists including Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, Goldfrapp and Yazoo. The Sanctuary Records catalogue features 170,000 works by the likes of Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Megadeth, The Kinks and Uriah Heep.
