BMG has acquired the publishing and master rights to Walking on Sunshine, one of the most popular songs of the last 30 years.
The track, which was released in 1985 by Katrina & The Waves, reached number eight in the official UK singles chart and number nine in the Billboard Hot 100.
The song has featured in a number of adverts, feature films, TV shows and video games while also being covered by the likes of the Muppets and Dolly Barton.
Patrick Joest, BMG’s executive vice president of Marketing and Sync, said: ‘The striking thing about Walking On Sunshine is its ability to work across virtually every medium from film to TV and advertising - and in virtually any product category. It is a song loved around the world, working across cultures and languages.’
According to BMG, the song is the centerpiece of its acquisition of the Kyboside catalogue, which includes rights to nearly every song written or recorded by Katrina & The Waves and the band’s primary songwriter Kimberley Rew.
Prior to forming Katrina & The Waves, Kimberly was a member of Robyn Hitchcock’s Soft Boys.
