Black Butter, a label instrumental in launching the careers of Rudimental, Clean Bandit, Gorgon City, has signed a new deal with Sony Music UK.

The label will act as an independent imprint, working under the Sony Music banner.

Black Butter founders Henry Village and Joe Gossa will head up the label as co-presidents reporting directly to Sony’s chairman and chief executive officer Jason Iley.

The label was first started by the pair in 2010 when they signed Rudimental and began managing the act full time.

Joe said: ‘It's been an incredible four years for Black Butter and we’re very proud of what we’ve achieved.

‘We see partnering with Jason as a great opportunity to build on this. Jason’s vision for the future is very exciting and forward thinking. It was this, along with his understanding of our business that ultimately persuaded us to come to Sony Music UK.’

Since starting the label, the pair have branched out into management with Stack House and publishing and signed a deal with BMG.

Some of the biggest selling British acts of the last few years including Rudimental, Jess Glynne and Clean Bandit have started their careers with the imprint.

Black Butter's current roster will stay with their respective labels while all new talent developed and released by Black Butter will come under the Sony Music UK deal.
