Birmingham Conservatoire is inviting cellists of all ages to join them in celebrating their string instrument on Cello Day.

International chair-in-cello Alexander Baillie, Lionel Handy and Catherine Ardagh-Walter will be among the musicians leading filled workshops, performances and masterclasses when the initiative takes place on 27 October.

All events are free with musicians of all abilities invited to attend and participate.

Louise Lansdown, head of strings at Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University, said: ‘We are thrilled to be able to showcase our inspirational cello tutorial staff and of course students.

‘There are two cello ensembles run throughout the year at the Conservatoire and both will be playing an important role on the day. This day is for everyone who loves the cello - and there is something on offer for all ages, levels and interests.’

The organisation is also hosting a Double Bass Day on Sunday 3 November. The event, like Cello Day, will feature a number of workshops and performances dedicated to showcasing the instrument.

Visit www.bcu.ac.uk/conservatoire for more information on both days.
