Minister for Communities Stephen Williams has announced over 170 free community music events across England on 11-13 July as part of Our Big Gig initiative.

Our Big Gig’s events will be free and feature more than 7,000 musicians and 2,000 volunteers helping to host gigs across the country.

Stephen Williams said: ‘Live music is a great way of getting people from all different backgrounds and from right across the country involved in their local community and have a weekend of free entertainment into the bargain.

‘The Our Big Gig weekend will help turn strangers and neighbours into friends and encourage lots of people to get involved in music, in some cases for the first time.’

Events include Our Big Gig across the Mersey with new artists performing on ferries across the river while Lives not Knives will provide a live music showcase in Croydon.

Visit the Our Big Gig website for more information on the events taking place across the country.

Our Big Gig is an Inspired by 2012 project aiming to keep the legacy of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics alive by bringing communities together. The initiative is organised by not for profit arts body Superact, with the Department for Communities and Local Government as the main sponsor.
