His workshop, entitled Songs and Lyrics, will take place on 29 September in the inspiring setting of Tilton House in Firle, just a short walk from the Bloomsbury Group's country home Charleston. The workshop has been designed to help people write better songs by telling stories. As most songs only last around three minutes, that's a very small window to write a powerful and memorable narrative.

Ben is probably best known as one part of pop duo Everything But The Girl, writing music and lyrics with partner Tracy Thorn. He also runs two record labels, and is constantly helping emerging songwriters and artists to grow.

Ben says: 'There is not much room to get it right in good song lyrics. In a short space of time you have to invite the listener in with a sense of killing familiarity and then exceed their expectations'

Participants in the workshop will be encouraged to draw up inspiration from their own experiences, writing succinct but powerful songs with the goal of being more likely to achieve commercial success.

The workshop will run from 9:30am to 5pm, is £90 (or £80 with a student concession), and this includes lunch, tea and coffee.

To book, visit the Charleston website, or alternatively you can telephone 01323 811 626.
