Stuart Murdoch, frontman of Scottish indie band Belle and Sebastian, has written, directed and scored new film God Help the Girl.

On 16 August, the band will launch the film with a special screening in Edinburgh alongside a live performance of some of the songs from the score.

The gig will take place at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and be simultaneously broadcast across UK cinemas.

God Help the Girl is a coming of age tale set in Glasgow about a young woman struggling to enter the adult world all told via an indie pop soundtrack. It was originally based on a solo project from Stuart Murdoch and stars Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Magic Magic), Olly Alexander (Great Expectations and forth coming The Riot Club) and Hannah Murray (Skins, Game of Thrones).

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2014 and was awarded a special jury prize at the event.

It was shot, edited, scored and mixed in Glasgow over the course of 2012-2013 and will be released in UK cinemas on 29 August, worldwide from September 2014.
