The BBC Young Musician competition has announced 25 musicians as finalists.
According to organisers, the musicians are across keyboard, woodwind, percussion, brass and strings and will be battling it out for a place in the final. The event is due to take place at the Barbican, London, accompanied by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mark Wigglesworth on Sunday 15 May.
The 2016 category finalists have been unveiled after an extensive audition process. There are now five finalists for each of its categories. These category finals will take place on 6-10 March 2016 at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, followed by the semi-final on 13 March 2016.
The three finalists will be accompanied by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mark Wigglesworth.
Commenting, Mark said: 'I am delighted to be part of the BBC’s celebration of this country's exceptional young musical talent. It is a privilege to be able to try and help a young musician enjoy the thrilling experience of playing with a wonderful professional orchestra for the first time.'
