MNEK, Ella Eyre and Luke Sital-Singh are among the 15 acts to be named on the BBC’s Sound of 2014 list.

The nominated artist, including Disclosure collaborator Sam Smith and Young Turks artist Sampha, were chosen by 170 music industry tastemakers including DJs, critics, broadcasters and bloggers.

A top five will be announced in January with an eventual winner named on 10 January. Last year saw US punk pop band Haim take the prize while previous winners have included Jessie J and Adele.

George Ergatoudis, head of music at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, said: ‘Unless you happen to have a handy TARDIS, there’s no better way to get a glimpse into the future of music than the BBC’s Sound Of 2014.

‘The annual longlist compiled by BBC News remains the definitive survey of the UK’s key musical taste-makers and in the highly competitive world of popular music a place on the list is highly prized.’
