Sarah Rodgers' latest commission Seascapes will premiere in Great Yarmouth in September as part of this year's BBC Proms.

The Norfolk-based composer, who is Deputy Chair of the PRS Members’ Fund, will bring her new work to the Great Yarmouth Hippodrome Circus theatre on September 8.

The BBC Concert Orchestra will be led on the night by their newly appointed Chief Conductor Anna-Maria Helsing, while the programme will feature orchestral favourites - including Stravinsky’s Circus Polka, Walton’s Crown Imperial and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending - alongside Seascapes.

'I am excited to have my work featured at the Proms concert in Great Yarmouth,' Sarah said in a statement. 'It is a rare privilege for a composer to be invited to create new work for a national orchestra of the standing of the BBC Concert Orchestra.

'Seascapes is a joyous celebration of the coastal location of the Great Yarmouth Hippodrome Circus and is full of orchestral energy and colour.'

This Proms concert, which will also be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 from 6pm on September 8, is part of Create Yarmouth, the BBC Concert Orchestra and Orchestras Live's three-year residency which is aiming to engage the diverse community of Great Yarmouth in a wide range of inspirational orchestral experiences.

Sarah Derbyshire MBE, CEO of Orchestras Live, added: 'As lead producer for the Create Yarmouth residency, Orchestras Live is thrilled the BBC Proms is including the BBC Concert Orchestra’s Great Yarmouth concert in this year’s festival. It’s been fantastic to work with the Orchestra to put orchestral music at the heart of Great Yarmouth’s cultural life.

'The inclusion of a new commission from Sarah Rodgers is a perfect example of the spirit of collaboration that has been clear throughout the project between the people of Norfolk and an iconic national orchestra.'
