Spotify has reported a 37 percent increase in the average number of artists each listener streams per week.

Since 2014, the average number of artists each listener streams per week has risen from just under 30 to around 40 artists per week, with the biggest increase happening in the past year.

The findings, posted on Spotify insights, show that listening diversity is on the up, thanks to editorial and algorithmic playlists including Discover Weekly, Fresh Finds, Release Radar, New Music Friday and Time Capsule which introduce listeners to artists they may not have previously heard of.

During the same period, the average weekly listening hours per user grew by 25 percent, with the number of artists played correlating to the increase in music played.

In the past year, the digital streaming giant has gained 20 million subscribers.

The figures follow a consumer survey that found that streaming accounts for 62 percent of listening time for teenagers aged between 16 and 19, with Spotify taking up 51 percent of their streaming time.
