The former Conservative MP for Hove and Portslade, who decided not to restand in the 2015 election, has pledged his support to the charity that works to improve deaf and disabled people’s access to live music.

Weatherley was appointed intellectual property advisor to the prime minister in 2013, lending his weight to recent debates on copyright legislation. He is also founder of parliament’s annual Rock the House initiative and a live music advocate

He said: ‘Attitude is Everything is an incredible charity that has a real impact on improving deaf and disabled people’s access to live music. Given the fundamental importance of live music in British culture, it is only right that we do all that we can to make sure that everyone has access to performances and is able to get full enjoyment of our wonderful creative talent.

‘I am delighted to become a patron of Attitude is Everything and will do my best to help ensure that fair and equal service is at the heart of live music’

Suzanne Bull MBE, chief executive of Attitude is Everything, added: ‘I am absolutely delighted to welcome Mike Weatherley to be our patron.

‘Mike is passionate about live music; and since 2012, he has involved Attitude is Everything in his Rock the House event, Parliament’s largest competition to celebrate the best of new UK talent. Attitude is Everything will really benefit from his expertise in intellectual property and his knowledge of the music industry.’

In related news, Manchester’s Band on the Wall has become the UK’s first small venue to be awarded Attitude is Everything’s ‘gold status’ for its commitment to deaf and disabled music fans.

Placing the 320-capacity venue on a par with The O2 and Glastonbury Festival, the charity’s charter awarded gold status to the venue for proving exemplary access provision.
