The Arts Council England has funded the composition and recording of a score to accompany a piece of contemporary dance from Peter Lyons.

Lyons (of Peter and Kerry) was commissioned to write the score to Vanity Fowl, a piece of contemporary dance which, according to its programme, 'follows an ordinary man, full of the usual insecurities that affect us all. A man that craves love, friendship and the need to belong'.

Lyons was given the opportunity as part of a wider Arts Council England initiative called New Adventures, which saw Matthew Bourne, one of the world's leading choreographers, recruit two promising choreographing talents to produce a performance which will be played out at the Sadler's Wells theatre.

Lyons worked alongside Tom Jackson Greaves on the score, and has crafted a delicate piece of music full of strings but has also applied the synths and electronic sounds common in his own music, marrying the two in a glitchy yet haunting work.

The score will be released by Lyons' label Tape Club Records on 28 January, and a special live performance date will be announced shortly after.

You can listen to The Longest Handshake  from the score below.
