Arctic Monkeys’ AM is on track for being the year’s fastest selling album after shifting nearly 100,000 copies since release.
The record, which is the band’s fifth and saw release on Monday (9 September), has sold 97,000 copies so far, according to figures from the Official Charts Company.
If the group continues to sell records at such a pace, they are forecast to overtake Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories to be the fastest, first week seller of the year.
The French electronic duo shifted 165,000 copies in the opening week for their latest record.
AM has been released by Domino Records and is almost certain to be the Sheffield band’s fifth consecutive number one. It will make them the first independent act to achieve this in chart history.
Elsewhere in the album charts, British indie trio London Grammar are expected to see their debut album If You Wait be the week’s second highest new entry.
The record is currently at number two in the album charts while The 1975 fall three places to fourth with their eponymous debut album.
Goldfrapp’s Tales Of Us is third with The Strypes’ debut album, Snapshot, rounding off the rest of the top five.
