Music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins has released a new video showcasing the experiences of students on its Master of Music Therapy (MMT) course.

The MMT is an internationally renowned Masters level programme, validated by City University London and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The video shows current students giving their opinion on how it is to train with the organisation.

Successful completion of this two-year course, which includes three contrasting music therapy placements, enables students to apply to the Health and Care Professions Council to register as a music therapist.

Dr Simon Procter, Programme Director, said: ‘This film is the first opportunity we have had to really give an insight into the Nordoff Robbins’ training programme. We hope it will give all those thinking about training as a music therapist with us an idea of what the course is all about and why music therapy can be such a rewarding profession for a musician.

‘Our students come to us from all walks of life - we get rock and folk musicians, musical theatre people, as well as conservatoire-trained classical musicians.’

The two-year course is run in both London and Manchester with intakes in alternate years. Applications to join the course are accepted throughout the year.

Prospective students in the capital are advised to apply by 20 January 2014 for entry in September 2014 in London.

Applications for Manchester should be submitted by 20 January 2015 for entry in September 2015.

All applicants must have a standard of playing equivalent to at least Grade 8 on their primary instrument. Watch the video below to find out more about the course.
