The Sound and Music Summer School is now open for applications from young composers looking to take the next step in their musical careers.

Running from 30 July until 5 August, the initiative is now in its ninth year and is a residential course for 75 young composers aged 14-18.

Held at the Purcell School for Music, students can explore and develop their musical ideas, be inspired by peers and professional musicians and try new areas of musical creation, from composing for film to writing for voices.

Composers will receive guidance and advice from experienced tutors and leading professional musicians. Each young person will receive over 60 hours of tutoring with one tutor to every three pupils.

The £450 fee includes all tutoring, accommodation, food and activities throughout the week. Bursaries and scholarships are available, regardless of whether students are from a low or higher income background.

Applications should be submitted by noon on 30 March.

Please visit the Sound and Music website to apply.
