Sage Summer Studios is opening up its Music Education Centre to offer free short residencies to enable you to create new work and develop your music.

Taking place from 1 August to 10 September, the initiative will allow music makers and creatives in the north-east to take advantage of the Sage Gateshead’s facilities for free.

According to the organisation, ‘residencies are creativity led rather than simply rehearsal, for example creating new material and song-writing, trying out new collaborations, performance and recording preparation’.

The project was launched last summer and welcomed artists including Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Ditte Elly, alternative rock band A Festival, A Parade and award-winning theatre production company ZENDEH.

The summer residencies will culminate in a showcase on 2 September where friends, family and members of the public are invited to hear the end result. The day will also provide valuable mentoring opportunities for each artist from the Sage Gateshead team.

Sage Summer Studio forms part of a wider programme of talent development at Sage Gateshead that will provide opportunities for a broad range of musicians working across different music genres. Sage Gateshead is one of 34 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development Partners.

To apply, please email TDP@sagegateshead.com with a brief description (100 words) or a short film (two minutes) describing how you would like to spend a short residency at Sage Gateshead and a link to music you have created.
