The Adopt a Composer scheme - which pairs amateur choirs, orchestras, and ensembles with a composer for one year - is now open for applicants.

This project is funded by the PRS for Music Foundation, and run by Making Music in association with BBC Radio 3.

According to the organisers, composers are partnered with a musical ensemble for 12 months to produce a new piece of music. The work will receive a premiere performance on BBC Radio 3.

Successful applicants will be mentored by Colin Riley, David Horne and Fraser Trainer with costs and expenses covered by the PRS for Music Foundation.

This opportunity is aimed at those composers at the beginning of their career interested in collaborating with an amateur group and have time to rehearse and perform a new work in their 2016-17 season.

Current collaborations include Chris Hutchings with the Jan Modelski Community Orchestra (Cheshire) and Angela Slater with the Lincoln Ukulele Band.

Submissions are now open until 9 June 2016.
