Calling all female songwriters aged 16 to 30: applications are now open for a two-day workshop spent with the songwriters behind the hits of Emelie Sandé, Paloma Faith, Rihanna and more!
The Girls I Rate Arts Academy Songwriting Weekender takes place on 10 and 11 November at London's The Church Studios, in partnership with PRS Foundation.
Fifteen successful candidates will learn 'a mixture of practical and theory skills including collaborating in small groups, improvisation, melody and lyric writing.'
The weekender is hosted by Grammy-nominated songwriter and founder of the Girls I Rate movement, Carla Marie Williams, whose credits include the likes of Beyonce, Britney Spears and Sean Paul.
Williams is joined by acclaimed songwriter Tanya Lacey (Rihanna, Emelie Sandé, Will.i.am) and singer, songwriter and vocal engineer, Simon Smith, aka Youngman (Paloma Faith, Shy FX, Wilkinson).
The two-day event will be rounded off with the Girls I Rate mixer, hosted by Rinse FM and SBTV DJ and Presenter, Nadia Jae. Applicants will walk away with a professionally recorded demo which will be listened to at the mixer by industry guests including A&R's, publishers and managers.
Speaking about the workshops, Williams said: 'I want to give girls across the world as many opportunities as possible that I didn't have growing up. I want to encourage more women to pursue their dreams and help increase the imbalance of female songwriters and producers at PRS for Music which is currently 17 percent female.'
