Scottish contemporary composer and electronic musician Anna Meredith has been named as the winner of the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award.
Anna was crowned winner of the £20,000 prize at an awards ceremony hosted by Vic Galloway and Janice Forsyth at Paisley Town Hall.
She and her record Varmints beat stiff competition to take the prize - other shortlisted acts included Steve Mason, C Duncan and Emma Pollock.
Speaking to Glasgow’s Evening Times, Anna said: ‘It has been a total honour and a privilege to be on the longlist and shortlist for the SAY award.
‘It has been great getting to know all of the other albums and during these politically difficult times to see positivity, creativity and spirit coming out of the longlist and shortlist. Thank you to all of those artists. Huge thanks to the SAY award and my long suffering and hugely talented band who helped me make this real labour of love.’
Varmints is the debut critically acclaimed album by Anna. Previously, she worked as a former composer in residence of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. She has also collaborated with beatboxer Schlomo writing the Concerto for Beatboxer and Opera.
The PRS for Music Foundation funded artist is currently calling for applications from new female artists to join her on a four day Brighter Sound residency in Manchester.
